Agriculture and Socio-Economic Division as the main core of Yekom Consulting Engineers was established in 1973. This
division performs its services through three sections including:
¬ Agriculture
¬ Planning and Socio-economic Studies
¬ Natural Resources and Animal Husbandry
¬ Agriculture
This section covers all the studies relevant to soil, farming and gardening. The studies may be either performed independently as land productivity management, land suitability and soil survey projects or to be a part of dam, water supply and irrigation and drainage network projects. In such projects, the existing condition of agriculture is studied, capacities and limitations are defined and required solutions to eliminate limitations are recommended. A development plan considering the capacity of the area is also prepared.
¬ Natural Resources and Animal Husbandry
This section covers a vast spectrum of activities including forest, range and watershed management, animal husbandry, preparation of vegetation maps, etc. Watershed management covers major activities of this section due to necessity of watershed protection against erosion and loss of soil potentials, and also to prepare the area for implementation of small water projects as well as soil fertility plans.
Preparation of vegetation maps and updating the existing ones through field investigations and satellite processing techniques based on available forest and range management studies and also preparation of flora data bank has currently covered another part of services of this section.
Animal husbandry studies are also among the services of this section, which is either performed independently or as a part of services of land and water projects

¬ Planning and Socio-Economic Studies
This section covers all the relevant studies for dam and irrigation network projects including demographics, agricultural economy, production operational systems, socio-economic services of environmental impact assessment of dam and irrigation networks, socio-economic impacts of river engineering and artificial recharge projects, reservoirs loss compensation studies and socio-economic services of agricultural development and spatial planning projects.
For the achievement of agricultural development goals concerning irrigation and drainage networks, specific studies are performed in this section under "farmers participation in construction, operation and maintenance of irrigation networks within a new operational system framework". As a result of this study, the services relevant to "action alternatives" are submitted for the design of operational system as well as supervision of its implementation and the relevant institutional restructuring.
