Water & Wastewater Engineering Division

Iran is located in the arid and semi-arid zones, where the optimal use of water is considered essential for further development. The achievement of this goal has been one of the most important action plans of Islamic revolution of Iran, especially in the constructive period after the Iran-Iraq War.
To accord with foreign policy of the country towards agricultural independency, Water & Wastewater Division of Yekom Consulting Engineers has accomplished the study, design and implementation of numerous projects in the areas of agricultural water distribution and transmission, wastewater treatment plants and reuse of treated effluents at national level. Promoting its technical knowledge, this division has also provided engineering services for some of the neighboring countries.  
This division performs its services through four main sections including:

¬ Water & Wastewater Treatment
¬ Structure and Civil Works
¬ Electromechanics
The performed projects in this division are classified into three main sections including:
1) Intake structures;
2) Water transmission lines;
3) Sewage discharge, collection and treatment systems.

Intake structures:
Water intake and its transmission to the consumption areas are performed in two general methods:
- Receiving water from the water basin and its transmission to the consumption areas
- Conveying water to outside of the water basin and its transmission to the consumption areas
• Sea; ;
• Reservoir;
• River;
• Conveyance canals;
• Water tunnels;
• Bays;
• Sources of springs and aqueducts (qanats).
This division has performed the final design and supervision for construction of intake structure projects for all of the abovementioned water basin types, whichever has its own specific characteristics. For instance, in sea water intake projects, in addition to general installations, the effects of tides, algae and planktons, sediments of water during turbulences as well as effects of severe water corrosion on hydraulic structures must be considered. In river intake method, the river's overflow, flow velocity, rapid change of flow regime and consequently change of river course as well as destruction of riverbed and banks and also the suspended solids especially during floods should be considered. In water intake from bays, the frequency of tidal water level fluctuations and water traffic as well as those effects indicated in sea water intake must be regarded to ease construction of the hydraulic structures and installation of the relevant equipments, and facilitate its operation, repair and maintenance.
Water intake and water transmission lines Water as one of exigencies of living organisms is also essential and determinative in many areas including agricultural production, power generation, etc. Today to be able to transfer water to upstream areas, water transmission pipelines, pumping plants as well as reservoirs are required.
This division has been involved in the study, final design and supervision for construction of all the involved intake structure, pumping plant and water transmission line projects.
Sewage Discharge, Collection and Sanitary Treatment Iran as a country with ancient civilization has been familiar with the process of effluent reuse and benefited from it since several centuries ago. For example, it can be indicated to the remaining traces of sewage discharge, collection and treatment network in Shoush Area and the use of human and animal wastes to generate biogas, became common by Sheikh Bahaie, a scientist from Safaviyeh Dynasty era.
Before establishment of Water and Wastewater Division, the sewage collection, discharge and treatment projects of Yekom were performed by Processing and Agro-Industry Division of the Company, which was involved in design and supervision for construction of sewage discharge, collection and treatment systems of industrial sites. However, Water and Wastewater Division of Yekom Consulting Engineers is now involved in design and supervision for construction of relevant project at urban level.
