Water and Wastewater Engineering

Water & wastewater Department of Yekom has accomplished the study, design and implementation of numerous projects in the areas of agricultural water distribution and transmission, wastewater treatment plants and reuse of treated effluents in national scale. Promoting its technical knowledge, this department has also provided engineering services for some of the neighboring countries.
The  projects performed by this department are classified into three main sections including: Intake structures, water transmission lines, and collection, discharge and treatment of sewerage; and wastewater treatment facilities.

Intake Structures:
The type and design of the intake structures for intake and transmission of the water to the consumption areas depends on water basins are as fallows:
• Sea
• Dam reservoirs
• Rivers
• Conveyance water canals
• Water transmission tunnels
• Bays
• Sources of springs and subterranean water canals (Qanats)

According to the list of engineering services records, water and wastewater department has performed the final design and supervision for construction of intake structure projects for all of the abovementioned water basin types, whichever has its own specific characteristics. For instance, the sea water intake projects, in addition to the general installations, the effect of ebb & flow, algae and planktons, sediments of water during turbulences as well as effects of severe water corrosion on hydraulic structures must be considered; or in river intake method, the rivers overflow, flow’s high velocity, rapid change of flow regime and consequently change of river course as well as destruction of riverbed and banks and also the suspended solids especially during floods should be considered in water intake from bays, frequency of tidal water level fluctuations and water traffic as well as those effects indicated in sea water intake must be regarded to ease construction of the hydraulic structures and installation of the relevant equipments, and facilitate its operation, repair and maintenance. It seems that water transmission to downstream areas for agricultural use is approaching its end through Iran, thus nowadays it is necessary to use updated knowledge and technology for transferring water to upstream areas in addition to construction and exploitation of water reservoirs such as Dams, Weirs, reuse of treated effluent in agriculture or even industry section, also water purification for drinking consumption. Water and wastewater department of Yekom Consulting Engineers has played an important rule in Iran’s self-sufficiency of seeking engineering services from developed countries. However, it would not hesitate in utilizing their experiences and their technical knowledge.
